Tummy Tuck & Lipoabdominoplasty

Tummy tuck and lipoabdominoplasty are two related cosmetic surgical procedures that focus on improving the appearance of the abdominal area. They are often performed to address issues such as excess skin, loose muscles, and stubborn fat deposits in the abdomen. While both procedures aim to enhance the abdominal contour, they have some differences in their approach.

Types of Tummy Tuck & Lipoabdominoplasty

1. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that targets excess skin and weakened abdominal muscles. It is an effective solution for individuals who have undergone significant weight loss or experienced abdominal stretching due to pregnancy.

Procedure:

During a traditional tummy tuck, the surgeon makes an incision along the lower abdomen, typically from hip to hip, and another incision around the navel. The excess skin is then removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened and sutured together to create a firmer and flatter abdominal wall. The remaining skin is repositioned, and a new opening is made for the navel.

Benefits:

  • Removal of excess skin and stretch marks from the lower abdomen.
  • Tightening of the abdominal muscles for a firmer core.
  • Improved abdominal contour and waistline definition.

Considerations:

  • Tummy tuck is generally performed under Regional Anaesthesia
  • A significant recovery period is needed after the surgery, and patients may need to avoid strenuous activities during the healing process.
  • Tummy tuck results are long-lasting, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential to preserve the outcome.

2. Lipoabdominoplasty

Lipoabdominoplasty, also known as liposuction-assisted abdominoplasty, combines the techniques of traditional tummy tuck with liposuction. This approach aims to provide more extensive fat removal and contouring in addition to addressing excess skin and muscle laxity.

Procedure:

Lipoabdominoplasty begins with liposuction to remove excess fat deposits in the abdominal area. This is typically performed through small incisions where a thin, hollow tube (cannula) is inserted to suction out the fat. After liposuction, the tummy tuck procedure is performed to remove excess skin, tighten the muscles, and reposition the remaining skin for a more toned appearance.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced fat removal and sculpting in addition to skin and muscle tightening.
  • Improved waistline definition and a more contoured abdominal area.

Considerations:

  • Lipoabdominoplasty is a more complex procedure than traditional tummy tuck or liposuction alone, and it requires general anesthesia.
  • The recovery period may be longer compared to a standard tummy tuck, as it involves both liposuction and abdominoplasty.
