Liposuction (VASER/PAL)

Liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to remove stubborn fat deposits from specific areas of the body. It is intended for individuals who have localized fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction can enhance body contours and create a more sculpted appearance.

Common Techniques Used in Liposuction

Two common techniques used in liposuction are VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) liposuction and PAL (Power-Assisted Liposuction).

1. VASER Liposuction:

VASER liposuction utilizes ultrasonic energy to liquefy fat cells before their removal. During the procedure, the surgeon introduces a small probe that emits ultrasonic waves into the targeted fat deposits. The ultrasonic energy breaks down the fat cells while preserving other tissues, such as blood vessels and nerves. The liquefied fat is then suctioned out through a cannula (a thin, hollow tube).

Benefits of VASER Liposuction:

  • Precise targeting of fat cells, which may lead to smoother and more even results.
  • Potentially reduced trauma to surrounding tissues.
  • The ability to target larger areas of fat.
  • It also has the ability to contract the skin.

Considerations:

  • VASER liposuction is a surgical procedure performed under either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.
  • Some swelling and bruising are common after the procedure, but this generally subsides with time.
  • Proper post-operative care is crucial to achieve the best results and ensure a smooth recovery.
  • VASER liposuction may be more expensive compared to traditional liposuction due to the specialized equipment and technology used.

2. PAL (Power-Assisted Liposuction):

PAL liposuction involves the use of a motorized, vibrating cannula that helps the surgeon break up and suction out fat more efficiently. The vibrating motion of the cannula allows for easier removal of fat with less manual effort compared to traditional liposuction.

Benefits of PAL Liposuction:

  • Faster and more efficient fat removal, which may lead to reduced procedure time.
  • Potentially less physical strain on the surgeon, allowing for enhanced precision and control.

Considerations:

  • PAL liposuction is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.
  • As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, including swelling, bruising, infection, and changes in sensation.

Both VASER and PAL liposuction techniques have demonstrated effectiveness in body contouring and fat removal. The choice between these techniques will depend on the individual’s specific needs, the surgeon’s expertise, and the recommendations made during the consultation.
